SEEDS FOR THE HEART
"HOLIDAYS ARE A PACKET OF SEEDS"
By April Boyer
How do you celebrate the holidays? There is Harvest time (or Halloween), thanksgiving,
Christmas and New Years all ahead of us and in a short span of each other.
Add your own religious practices, celebrations for the football season, winter sports or activities and New
Year's goals and you have quite a list.
If you are looking for new ideas for writing topics - start here.
How many ways can you think of to write a how to for any of these holidays or activities?
Let's break down just one: Harvest time. This is what I prefer to celebrate in October
instead of Halloween. However, you may choose the later, especially if you have small children -
or even big children.
1) Is Harvest time a family event for you? Do you plan special activities?
2) Do you plan special meals throughout the fall season?
3) Are you finishing up the garden and canning the harvest?
4) Do you test new recipes, or enjoy family favorites?
5) Do you take weekend trips or vacations reserved for autumn?
6) Do you enjoy festivals or special events in your area?
7) Do you take time to clean your closets and update your wardrobe?
8) Do you do something different with your small children?
9) What about football? Tail-gate recipes? Other get togethers?
10) Is harvest time (or Christmas) an emotional time for you ? (why?)
Thanksgiving and especially Christmas will open up even more possibilities. Here
are some to think about:
Giving
Charity
Budget shopping
Hosting visiting family members
Wrapping packages
Giving presents from the heart
Remembering the Reason
Teaching children the qualities of Christmas
Now you have a good collection of seeds to begin a new season of writing, or to add to the
existing one. These may keep you busy for quite some time. There are many magazines looking
for your polished story. And, if you do not find one that suits your needs, consider what
your Holiday Memory Keeper may mean to the loved ones in your life.
[Seeds in Season Writing Resources would love to accept your submission of a Holiday or
Christmas story or devotional. I continue to accept contributed material as it comes in,
for timely publication.]
"In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ concerning you."
