MORNING DEW
"Renewing your Mind"
By April Boyer
KEEP STUDYING
We all know how hard it is to focus these days. How hard is it to re-call
those things that are important? How often do you find yourself referring to your notepad or
calendar by the phone, or to your computer's office memo keeper, or blackberry organizer?
Can we imagine being without our cell phones and unable to connect to other members of our
family or circle of friends? We rely on others to then keep us in touch with 'what comes next'.
If you find yourself in this constant rat race, do you remember what God says about any
given situation? Have you remembered to take time out with God this morning, or in the evening? Has your walk and your talk gone astray?
Renewing our minds in God's word is like bread and light. We need it. We cannot expect
scripture to stick if we don't refresh from time to time. Daily practice is one way to
memorize, but it also helps us to apply what God is saying to our day, and to our situation.
KEY VERSE Romans 12:2 "And be not conformed to this world; but be ye transformed by the
renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is good, and acceptable, and perfect will
of God."
JOURNAL CONSIDERATIONS: Put yourself in a retreat of the mind this week. If you can only
spare a few hours, plan to set yourself apart to pray, praise God and study. Choose manageable
goals in scripture. Surround yourself in a retreat atmosphere. Scented candles, music,
soft lights, an outdoor spot, fragrant tea or cocoa, and/or baked treats can be honoring to the Lord, as well as helpful to you. Bring them as gifts to the King. Write your feelings throughout your retreat. Plan to renew something you feel you've lost in your busy world. Read as many of the verses above as you can plan.
Homework: Write about what's missing from your life currently because of concerns and busy
ness. Relate it to a physical part of your body, and imagine how you would function without it.
Write about how your day would go, and how you would rejoice when it is restored.
Homework for Nature writers: Write about something that is currently missing from your natural
world. Write about how you will restore it. Compare this to the verses above.
