ABOUT ME
April Boyer has lived in North Central Ohio for over 23 years, but was
born and raised in North-Western Indiana. She has been married to Jeff Boyer for 34 years,
is mom to two, and Gramma Apple to Jade and Matthew. She was saved when she was ten, thanks to the
diligence of SS teacher Jane Anderson,Ms. Davis and others at Inland Manor Baptist Church
near Ogden Dunes IN. April believes she has been redeemed from the penalty of sin - which is death;
by the grace of God freely given and by her acceptance of that gift. Her life verse is John 5:24. She's now a member of Calvary Baptist Church
in Ashland Ohio. She'd be happy to share her friend Jesus with you. A favorite verse is Proverbs
3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thy own understanding. In all thy
ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths."
April loves meeting people and enjoys birding, photography, road trips and reading. "Gramma Apple"
is a name adopted by her grandchildren to differentiate from their 'other' grammas; because of her
kitchen collection of apples; and from her long-ago baby brother's mis-pronunciation of "April". The
title has also been used as a children's story teller's persona.
April enjoys working with small ministries. This is her delight! Some of her other interests
include: Networking people who need people- particularly in the writing fields and in ministries.
She is also interested in empowering young women and senior citizens with confidence and assertiveness training.
Other intersts are :group and event organizing, cConnecting with Grandchildren, teaching children
about nature and to love reading, American Indians, and Scizophrenia and
its affects on family members.
The writing journey began for her when as a care-giver for a deaf woman, she began to communicate
with her charge by writing conversations on a large yellow legal pad. During the many hours of
quiet, April eventually began to write for herself and in expression to praise and prayers to her
heavenly Father. She was soon writing poetry and descriptive essays.
Only a year later she was writing for a small town newspaper covering personality profiles, nature
pieces and the local career center's events. She found she loved interviewing people, and she made
a point to try and find situations where that could make news. It did. April considers herself a
late bloomer, since it was not until she was in her late forties that she began to write. She's
still learning, and considers life the best teacher.
April has published more than 45 historical, nature or personality articles in regional, national
Christian magazines and e-zines, and in newspapers. Several non-fiction books are in the planning
process, including one that looks at Christian publishing, a devotional/poetry book, a profile of
Ohioans, and a writer's bible study. She is available for editing short manuscripts or projects, and
for other writing situations.
As the founder and 6 year director of the Ashland Area Christian Writer's Guild, and in working
with ministries April has adapted an ability to organize events and fund raisers. A joint effort
with other group organizers in Northern and North Central Ohio to establish an event for leaders,
was begun in 2004 and continues to gain attention.
April's long term writing goals include the publication of the current book in progress
"Publishing For A Higher
Purpose", and of a writer's daily devotional calendar called "Seeds in Season".
An anthology about remarkable, simple-living Ohioans of today is also planned.
She is also developing encouragement greeting cards and additional greeting gifts that
feature her poetry and photographs.
She offers desk top publishing solutions along with editing and hopes to emcompass all of these
interests into her business called "New Hope DKTOP PUBLISHING". (small office and correspondence
needs)
April hopes the seeds planted among these pages are the beginnings of new growth for your
writing efforts, for emotional healing, or for your relationship with Jesus Christ.
She would be pleased to hear from you. Write to her on the contact page.
