I was just reading some encouragement from a great little writer's aid called "Writing Toward Home" by Georgia Heard. I won it in at a writer's conference in Coshocton. Heard uses an illustration (completely a non-Christian perspective) about how we need rocks in our life.


She told the story about a rapid water trip when the water was low. The instructor told the participants that if they saw rocks coming up, to not try and avoid them. The rafts would bounce off them and into the flowing water and back into the river's current.


Writers face rocks in their lives, and add to that the obstacles all of us experience. She says don't try to avoid them. Trying to evade them can be a waste of energy, when they can be valuable teachers and can build our strength.

The French don't say "Good Morning". From daybreak they say "Good Day", which is Bonjour (pronounced bon-sjure)

I must be on the right course. I'm facing some big rocks, and they will come regardless of my efforts to avoid them. I might as well let them take me into the right current.


God knows the right route for me, where the water will cradle me as I am jostled between and past the biggest rocks. The rough ride may be a part of his plan. Being crunched against a pebbled river bottom can be a temporary measure to help me avoid bigger injuries.


If the route takes me to a hard landing, than that was God's plan too, " -a plan to prosper me, not to harm me, to give me hope and a future." Jeremiah 29: 11

First prayers in the morning may be the best blessing you receive all day. Offering God the activities of your day is an excellent way to start. Have you ever felt like the sunrise was a special gift to you? It is! How God must love us so, to give us the warmth, light and life afforded us by the sunshine. It reminds us of a fresh new beginning every single day as well. What will you do with the opportunity? This early morning offering to God encourages us to thank God for the abundance of gifts he rains on us continually. How extraordinary is His love!

Go ahead and take the big rocks as they come. God will steer the way.
